Marvin Mayfield is a native New Yorker, and a product of Bed-Stuy Brooklyn. After being directly impacted the disparities of the criminal justice system, he has dedicated his energy to changing the laws that disproportionately oppress the people of his community. As a leader of the #CLOSErikers and #FREEnewyork campaigns, he is passionately engaged in the fight for criminal justice reform.
Marvin has worked for New York University as an education assistant for the Prison Education Program. He has also worked for the David Rothenburg Policy Center at the Fortune Society, conducting research to assist returning citizens who face barriers to stable housing. He is currently a Justice in Education Scholar at Columbia University in New York City.
