Matt Collinson serves as JLUSA’s Training Manager for the Leading with Conviction and Emerging Leaders programs. These training cohorts support formerly incarcerated people as they lead the dismantling of mass incarceration in the USA. Prior to JLUSA Matt worked as a Senior Program Associate in the Justice Programs Office at American University, where he led and facilitated trainings for court teams on best practices with the justice system and worked on a subcontract from JLUSA to create the Leading with Conviction 2.0 Curriculum.
Matt continues to teach classes at AU as an adjunct professor, including an introduction to the justice system for freshman, and a masters level class on pre-trial justice, risk assessments and reducing jail populations. Having trained as a public health researcher, Matt is primarily interested in using training and ands skills building to translate research and best practices into practical, impacted people driven solutions, to dismantle mass incarceration.
Matt holds a Master’s in Public Mental Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and BS in Biochemistry from the University of Leicester.
