Sophie Halter

Foundation Giving Manager

New York ,NY

As JustLeadershipUSA’s Foundation Giving Manager, Sophie draws from five years of experience in nonprofit development, including fundraising, volunteerism, and community partnerships, to amplify the organization’s mission to cut the US correctional population in half by 2030. Sophie is deeply passionate about criminal justice reform and anti-racism work, and firmly believes that fundraising is integral to unearthing deeply rooted systemic inequality. Prior to joining the JLUSA team, Sophie worked as a fundraising consultant, where she helped New York City-based nonprofits enhance their institutional giving portfolios, fundraising campaigns, and donor communications.

In addition, Sophie has volunteered as a certified yoga instructor, providing yoga and mindfulness programming to young men ages 17 to 21 on Rikers Island; co-facilitator of a 12-week educational course for individuals in the pre-trial phase of a federal court case; and executive chair for nonprofit and borough-focused leadership committees focused on both breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration and community revitalization. Sophie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Advocacy and Justice, with minors in Social Justice Studies and Spanish & Hispanic Studies, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. On any given day, you can find Sophie doing yoga, running half marathons, or cooking-up some vegan food.
