JustUS Coordinating Council meets with federal departmental offices in Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday, July 18th, JustLeadershipUSA President and CEO DeAnna Hoskins and Director of National Policy Zach Ruppel were joined by JustUS Coordinating Council Steering Committee members and Leading with Conviction™ alums, Kyle Bacon and Eric Weaver, for strategic meetings at three federal departmental offices in Washington D.C.

The team engaged with the United States Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, the National Institute of Corrections’ Jails Division, and the Reentry Employment Opportunities unit in the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration. In addition to introductory overviews of JLUSA’s Leadership Training Institute and the newly launched JustUS Coordinating Council, the JLUSA team highlighted the power of authentic engagement with citizens directly impacted by the criminal legal system and engaged with each office to begin laying the foundation for ongoing engagement and collaboration.

JustUS Coordinating Council Steering Committee members Kyle Bacon and Eric Weaver also attended the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition “Second Chance Town Hall” with 2023 Freedom Ball honoree and activist Tony Lewis Jr.

The National Basketball Social Justice Coalition is an organization of players, coaches, team governors, and executives leading the NBA family’s advocacy work to dismantle racial inequality and advance social justice.
