Over the past month, JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA) has added two new Movement and Capacity Building Specialists (MCBSs) to our team! The MCBSs help to train and lead statewide coalition organizing efforts in multiple states, and they work to build grassroots political power in marginalized communities most impacted by systemic oppression.
The MCBSs are also key representatives of JLUSA in engaging with other groups, organizations, or stakeholders across their assigned region. The ultimate goal is to build grassroots power that results in changing public perception, drastic reductions in incarcerated and supervised populations, and creation of fully-resourced pathways to healing in impacted communities.
What’s even more exciting is that both of the new MCBSs are also graduates of JLUSA’s flagship Leading with Conviction™ leadership development program:
Candice Bailey (LwC 2023) is an avid way-maker, educator, advocate, and leader in the Denver, Colorado, metro area and across the nation. She has led Lighthouse Consultants Colorado, as the Founder and CEO, to support community-based action inside of systems and is the Founder and Executive Director of Light Carrier, a nonprofit dedicated to nationwide interruption of oppression. Having both education and lived experience has given Candice a raw comprehension of what is truly needed for impactful change for everyone.
Kimberly Haven (LwC 2020) is not just a participant in the social justice movement; she is a dynamic force driving change. As a recognized subject matter expert, Kimberly is in high demand as a speaker, addressing crucial topics like Women in Prison, Women’s Reproductive Justice, Voting Rights and Democracy, Collateral Consequences, Conditions of Confinement, Mass Incarceration and Re-Entry, Pre-Trial and Parole and Probation reforms, and Higher Education in Prison. Beyond the microphone, Kimberly is a go-to expert for legislative testimonies and media commentary on a wide range of criminal justice reform and advocacy matters. She routinely consults with and collaborates with state and local elected officials and executives, sharing her invaluable insights on criminal justice issues.
Please help us welcome both of these amazing leaders to the JLUSA team!
In our 10th anniversary year, JustLeadershipUSA’s work of educating, elevating, and empowering justice-impacted leaders continues and is growing even stronger!
This is going to be a very special time to look back on the past decade of JLUSA’s important work, the 1,600+ leaders we have helped get to the next level in their work, and even more importantly, we will look ahead to the next 10 years and beyond!
We can’t do this without you. We need your support to help us continue to do this work now and into the future. By making a donation in honor of JLUSA’s 10th anniversary year, you are saying to the amazing leaders in our network who represent the 70+ million Americans who have been directly impacted by the criminal legal system, “I see you, and I support you!”
Please give a one-time $100 gift or set up a recurring $10 monthly donation to celebrate JLUSA’s 10th anniversary year, and together we will build a fair and just U.S. Thank you!
