In August, Avalon Betts-Gaston (Leading with Conviction™ 2022) and Kyle Giddings (Leading with Conviction™ 2024 participant) were keynote speakers at the “Civic Power: Unlocking Our Democracy” event in Denver, Colorado.
Kyle Giddings spoke on a panel discussing immigration rights, voting rights, and the criminal justice system, and Avalon Betts-Gaston (pictured above) spoke on a panel discussing the recent report “Out of Step: U.S. Voting Rights in a Global Perspective.”
Kyle tells JLUSA, “Disenfranchisement impacts countless communities across the United States, and it is crucial that we recognize our shared struggles and unite to advocate for collective liberation and full access to democracy. This year’s Civic Power conference provided the opportunity to bring together advocates for justice and immigrant rights to exchange ideas, strategize, and build the power necessary to ensure that every community has the chance to be heard and that their political influence be respected. Together, we are fighting for a future where no voice is silenced and every community stands empowered, no matter the label imposed on them by society.”
