JustLeadershipUSA® and the JustUS Coordinating Council™ Announce #SecondChancesInAction™ Campaign for April, Second Chance Month

March 11, 2025

Today, JustLeadershipUSA® (JLUSA) and the JustUS Coordinating Council™ (JCC) are excited to announce the launch of #SecondChancesInAction™, a powerful call-to-action symbolizing the pursuit of freedom from the weight of a criminal record through awareness and community-led initiatives.

The goal of #SecondChancesInAction is to increase activities in Second Chance Month and Fair Chance Employment Month that reclaim opportunities, rebuild reputations, and break the chains of the past in order to start fresh. The JCC is partnering with legislators nationwide to honor the month and is encouraging engagement around the country with #SecondChancesInAction.

Advocates are encouraged to take part in activities like expungements and pardons, bringing elected officials to prisons and jails, hosting job fairs, and organizing reentry simulations.

Visit justuscc.org/secondchances for more information, to access helpful resources, and list your related activity on the events calendar so we can help promote it nationwide.

JLUSA is also announcing its official participation in the following Second Chance Month events:

  • April 2-5 — Emerging Leaders™ Training at the Innocence Network Conference in Seattle, WA
  • April 10-11 — Members of the JLUSA team and alumni community will present a workshop on “Authentic Engagement for Persons with Lived Experience” and JLUSA President and CEO DeAnna Hoskins will present a keynote at the National Returning Citizens Conference in Columbus, OH
  • April 14-17 — JLUSA and JCC are officially sponsoring JustUs Ideas Week, being held at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, NY
