Chivas Watson on rising health care costs

December 29, 2025

“Some Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBSTX) policy holders say they’re worried after the insurance provider announced its contract with Ascension Seton could expire on Jan.1.

“If the two don’t reach a deal by Jan 1., policyholders won’t get in-network coverage at Ascension facilities and hospitals. The issue boils down to costs, and a hospital system spokesperson for Ascension pointed to medication costs and equipment.

Chivas Watson [Leading with Conviction™ 2023] explained how he doesn’t qualify for Medicaid and can’t afford the insurance provided by his job, so he relies on BCBSTX, which he noted was the most affordable option for his family.

“Watson said recently BCBSTX has sent him a series of emails about his premiums skyrocketing in the new year, which worries him.

“‘It’s really tight for us,’ said Watson.

“BSBCTX sent a statement to KVUE Monday and said, ‘it values the care Ascension provides and is working to sign new contracts.’

“The company added certain patients who may be getting care for things like disabilities or acute illnesses will be able to get continued care even if the contract lapses.

“KVUE reached out Tuesday for additional information, but BCBSTX did not respond immediately to our request.”
