JustLeadershipUSA holds first-ever Emerging Leaders+™: Financial Justice training in New York City

On September 9-10 at Candid in New York City, JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA) held its first-ever Emerging Leaders+™: Financial Justice training. Through an investment from the New York State Black Legislative Task Force, JLUSA brought together more than 20 frontline staff, program managers and leaders representing eight New York City-based nonprofit organizations serving predominantly Black and Brown communities most impacted by incarceration and economic exclusion. 

Over the course of two days, this cohort engaged in JLUSA’s foundational Emerging Leaders™ curriculum, which covers policy, advocacy and communication. Participants also engaged with the Financial Justice curriculum, which draws on the findings from the 2025 Cost of Conviction report, developed in collaboration with Americans for Financial Reform and Hip Hop Caucus. 

Through March 2027, this cohort will participate in a series of follow-up webinars and learning opportunities designed to build on the knowledge and skills introduced during the kick-off convening. The program will conclude with the Community Solutions Forum, where partner organizations and leaders will share how they applied practical lessons from the program and the results of that work for the community members they serve. At the conclusion of the training, participating leaders will be eligible for 2.9 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
