Anthony Witherspoon is Mayor of the City of Magnolia, Mississippi. He is married to Senator Tammy Witherspoon and they have two sons), Anthony II and Amani Witherspoon. Mayor Witherspoon serves as an Executive Board Member for the Mississippi State Conference of the NAACP, and is recent past president of the McComb/Pike County Branch of the NAACP. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Beecham Memorial Hospital and Freedom Behavioral Health. He was previously employed with the ACLU of Mississippi as the Criminal Justice Community Organizer, and as the Criminal Justice Program Director for One Voice Public Policy Institute of Jackson, Mississippi.
Anthony also serves as the President of the Mississippi Conference of Black Mayors and 2nd Vice President of the Mississippi Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials. In May of 2018 he served as an International Observer to the controversial Presidential Elections in Venezuela. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Belhaven University and a Master’s in Public Administration also from Belhaven University. Mayor Witherspoon is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at Jackson State University in the Higher Education Administration Doctoral Degree Program. He and his wife Tammy are also the Owners of Sankofa Preschool Academy, and Safeguard Insurance Agency. He is also a very proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
