Terry L. Johnson works as a Peer Support Specialist for the community mental health organization, Health West, in Muskegon, Michigan. He primarily works with people incarcerated within the county jail. He assists them with recovery services and community support systems that are geared to reduce recidivism and aid successful reentry back into the community. He also works with law enforcement to better community relations, jail diversion, and does Crisis Intervention Team trainings, as well as serves on various Corrections committees.
Terry was released from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 2011, after serving 22 years of incarceration. While serving time, he became a Certified Paralegal; served as Vice President of the Jaycees (Michigan Chapter); he learned to play three instruments; and taught self-help class to the prison population. Terry is from Detroit, where he grew up the youngest of three boys in a single parent home. He now resides in Muskegon with his wife. He has one daughter who resides in Philadelphia.
