Sukyi McMahon is JLUSA’s Executive Strategic Director, supporting overall organizational interests by acting as a thought partner, strategic advisor, capacity builder, and interdepartmental project manager with a primary focus on JLUSA’s national policy work and strategic partnerships.
She brings to JLUSA years of nonprofit strategic management, policy advocacy, community organizing, and coalition-building experience from her recent roles as the Director of the Collaborative on Reckoning and Justice and Manager of the Roundtables on the Future of Justice Policy at The Square One Project, a criminal justice narrative and culture change project housed at the Columbia University Justice Lab, and as Senior Policy Director and Executive Strategic Director of the Austin Justice Coalition, which mobilizes people to boldly fight racist systems through a Black, queer, feminist, and abolitionist lens.
Sukyi was President of Equity Action ATX, which strengthens and advances local transformative justice efforts at the polls. She served as Policy Coordinator at Just Liberty, a bipartisan organization dedicated to comprehensive criminal justice reform through state legislation.
Sukyi believes community voices must be included in policy making around safety and justice, and sat on numerous task forces and committees in Austin including the Human Rights Commission and Community Police Review Commission.
