Chivas Watson on the power of community

February 13, 2024

Due to the power of community, I’m able to transform advocacy into leadership, ideas into resources, and pain into purpose.

Chivas Watson—Founder and Lead Administrator of WorkingGroup512 (WG512) and Leading with Conviction™ 2023 graduate—sprung into action recently, after getting a call about five men released from incarceration.

Against an already-filled schedule, Chivas and WG512 members worked quickly to provide each individual with 175 pounds of food, digital devices, $1K in clothing, new bedding, $1K in bus passes, and quality job leads within the first four days after their release.

Chivas says, “Due to the power of community, I’m able to transform advocacy into leadership, ideas into resources, and pain into purpose.”

WG512 provides direct service to individuals and families across Austin and in the Central and South Texas regions: providing food deliveries, outfitting homes with second-hand furniture, ensuring support and resources to unhoused neighbors, helping moms, and much more.
