JustLeadershipUSA Announces Chicago Beyond Grant Recipients for Directly Impacted People to Enact Change Within the Criminal Justice System

August 14, 2024

JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA) is excited to announce the recipients of grants from Chicago Beyond, a national philanthropic organization that addresses systemic inequity by backing solutions led by those closest to the issues. The Chicagoland Community Leadership Development Investment Program was created by a $450,000 multi-year investment from Chicago Beyond in order to build a strong bench of formerly incarcerated (FI) and directly impacted (DI) individuals in the Chicagoland area who can make meaningful change in their community and beyond. The local leaders receiving one-year grants are:

Nearly 100 leaders attended a two-day Emerging Leaders™ (EL) training in February and were then invited to apply for one of the available grants. JLUSA will provide the six grant awardees with hands-on training while supporting them in their community-based work that is helping to advance comprehensive racial equity and economic mobility within their communities.

The grant awardees will participate in another EL Training Program, EL Intensive workshops, and a trauma and self-care healing retreat. Awardees will also meet monthly with an Executive Coach assigned by JLUSA. The objective of these learning events and coaching sessions is to equip participants with the tools to build and lead a movement for justice in the Chicagoland area.

“JustLeadershipUSA is so excited to be supporting these six amazing people to develop their work and their leadership, while building a deep bench of directly impacted leaders to continue the fight for criminal justice reform in the Chicagoland area,” said JLUSA President and CEO DeAnna Hoskins. “Over the next year, we look forward to investing in these emerging leaders and helping them reach the next level in their work for justice and equality.”

Dear JLUSA.org Blog Reader,

In our 10th anniversary year, JustLeadershipUSA’s work of educating, elevating, and empowering justice-impacted leaders continues and is growing even stronger!

This is going to be a very special time to look back on the past decade of JLUSA’s important work, the 1,600+ leaders we have helped get to the next level in their work, and even more importantly, we will look ahead to the next 10 years and beyond!

We can’t do this without you. We need your support to help us continue to do this work now and into the future. By making a donation in honor of JLUSA’s 10th anniversary year, you are saying to the amazing leaders in our network who represent the 70+ million Americans who have been directly impacted by the criminal legal system, “I see you, and I support you!”

Please give a one-time $100 gift or set up a recurring $10 monthly donation to celebrate JLUSA’s 10th anniversary year, and together we will build a fair and just U.S. Thank you!
