Paul Rothschild receives Canary Impact Award for “Movement Mix-tape” project

July 19, 2024

Paul Rothschild (Leading with Conviction™ 2024 participant) has been awarded a $10,000 prize from the Canary Impact Fund. He posted this announcement message on social media:

“I’m humbled, honored, and honestly a little scared to have been selected as one of the Canary Impact awardees for 2024, with my fellows, Marsha King, Adrian Allen, Bridgette Simpson, John Bae, Mario F. Wright, and Richard D. Smith.

“We were encouraged to submit an application that was audacious, and innovative, and that would require us to stretch and grow. I tapped into one of my unrequited loves, hip-hop music. I proposed a project titled ‘Movement Mix-tape,’ which will bring formerly incarcerated artists and producers together to produce a soundtrack for social change that will be available for use in narrative change by all criminal legal system reform and abolition partners.

[“Movement Mix-tape”] will bring formerly incarcerated artists and producers together to produce a soundtrack for social change …

“Thanks to Canary Impact for supporting and encouraging me to attempt this dream, and offering me the network and resources to manifest it.

“Calling all formerly incarcerated rappers, singers, spoken-word artists, musicians, beat-makers, producers, and editors! If you know someone, pass this along, and ask them to contact me to be included in this groundbreaking project!”

Previous JLUSA leaders who have received awards from the Canary Impact Fund include Michael Cox, Khalil Cumberbatch, Emile DeWeaver, Belen Enriquez, Keeda Haynes, and Marlon Chamberlain.
